What’s inside my Camera Bag/ Editing

One of the most frequently asked questions I receive is how I take and edit my photos. When it comes to the blogging world, the quality of your photos can really make the difference in your brand. When I started out blogging, I was only using my iPhone and apps like A Color Story, VSCO, etc.

 Do I need DSLR?

With the advancement of technology these days you can really do a LOT with an iPhone. Some of the pictures I take turn out just as good as my iPhone photos. However, I feel having a DSLR really just takes you to that next step with creating content and editing. Playing with the settings, and really learning about your DSLR will produce some really amazing and clean content.

I want to up my photo game.. what is the best camera to start with?

There are some super awesome starting cameras available at a really reasonable retail price. When first starting out, I wouldn’t dive right in and purchase the most expensive body available.. that won’t necessarily make your photos ahhh-mazing. For my first Camera, I bought an older used Nikon D3100, and it was great.  I upgraded last year to a Canon T6, and I am finally started to get more comfortable with my photography that this year I will be looking into a Full Frame body.

Your lens makes ALL the difference

It’s true. Your lens truly does make all the difference, and investing in a better lens will produce a better result. The lens kit that comes with a camera isn’t the best, and probably won’t look much different than the photos you capture on your iPhone. One of my absolute favorite go to’s is the Canon 50mm f/1.8. It really gives me a crisp photo, with a blurred background- and it’s super affordable. I also just added a Sigma 30mm 1.4 to my camera bag which I have heard great things about, and I am super excited to use.

How do you edit your photos?

In the blogging world, how you edit your photos is your competitive advantage. It is what makes your profile unique, and stand apart from others. I edit all of my photos in Adobe Lightroom mobile. I am always playing around with new presets, and trying to create my own. I have purchased some preset packs that I absolutely love, and tweak the photo from the original preset (saturation, colors, light, detail, etc). I love Aspyn Ovard’s and Tezza’s preset packs.

In the end, it’s all practice makes perfect. Investing in the right equipment, and really teaching yourself how to use it! I am still learning every single day with Photography and Lightroom and I hope to have some more editing tips+ tricks for you up soon.

  1. It really is true, there’s so much you can do with an iPhone and the right editing apps, that said, I think I might want to save up for a DSLR sometime in the future! x

  2. I love your blog and your insta! I’m so inspired by you! I want to become a blogger but haven’t really picked a specific thing to blog about, I also don’t always have someone to take my pictures.. I’d love to know how you got started and how you got brands to send you things and host you. I’d love to have my insta looking like yours tbh. I need all the help I can get :/
